Going back to school: now is the best time!
Are you finding that you're not where you want to be in life? You should think about going back to school! This is the best time to go back to school with the economy the way it is. Now is the time to learn new skills and get a better paying career.
Now that you've made this decision, what's the first step? Well, there's a lot to think about when going back to school. The first choice you need to make is what you would like to major in! Maybe you've always been drawn to the nursing profession. Perhaps teaching has always appealed to you. Whatever your calling, this decision will need to be made in order to choose the best school for you.
The next logical step when going back to school is to apply to the school that best fits your needs. Depending on your needs, this might be either a four-year university, or a community college. Of course, if you're like me, you might start off at a community college, and then transfer to a university. Also keep in mind for-profit universities like DeVry and Kaplan. For-profit universities like these are usually a great choice for working adults.
So, you've applied and been accepted! Congratulations! Now you've got to start thing about how you're going to pay for this. This can be quite expensive, so it's a good thing there are plenty of grants, scholarships, and student loans to help you out. And don't think that scholarships are just for the kids - there are actually more than 230 scholarships that are only available to those aged 25 or older! And of course, there are also many grants available to adults as well. There's always the choice of student loans for those who were not awarded any scholarships or grants, and with interest rates as low as 2.75%, this might not be as bad a choice as some make it out to be.
Alright, you're in, and it's paid for - what now? Now it's time for classes to start! I applaud your drive, but let's not get too far ahead of ourselves here - this is going to present a few changes into how you live your life, so it's best to start off slowly while you get acclimated to the experience. I think it would be best if you limited yourself to only two or maybe three classes during your first semester. This is the way I did it, and it was helpful to get acclimated to my new schedule.
And now you're going back to school! Congratulations on taking this journey! There's still quite a bit of info that will help you succeed at school. From note-taking tips, to information about tests you can take to help you figure out your major, I would recommend you head over to www.goingbacktoschool.org to learn more about how you can best succeed during college.
